The Department of Geography in the Faculty of Arts is currently seeking a Full-time Regular RS/GIS Analyst.

The Remote Sensing/Geographic Information System (RS/GIS) Analyst reports to the Department Head via the Department Manager and works closely with departmental faculty, specifically with RS/GIS research and teaching.

Position Description
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

- Test and manage RS/GIS course hardware, software, and data to ensure functionality and accessibility to students and instructors.
- Provide Technical support for RS/GIS software applications to students, staff and faculty of the Department of Geography and other departments that do not possess in-house RS/GIS support.
-Guide and provide advice on appropriate RS/GIS project design and methodology to graduate students, undergraduates and staff or research assistants.
-Develop, write and provide comprehensive and accurate lab, course materials and data sources to studens and faculty in a timely manner.
-Provide technical support as Course Assistant for lab courses:

- Develop assignment details.
- Assist in instruction within the lab.
- Answer students' questions regarding the lab.
- Prepare equipment and material for experiments.
- Help Teaching Assistant get up to speed in preparation for one or more specific labs.

- Communication with students, staff and faculty is maintained and provided in a professional, timely and courteous manner to facilitate sharing of technical information within the department.
- Liaison with various computer lab administrators to address hardware and software configuration and data storage and distribution issues in university RS/GIS computer labs.
- Provide training and logistical support for RS and GIS field based research programs to students, staff and faculty involved in individual projects.
- Design and modify methods and procedures and communicate results in written or visual graphic form in support of RS and GIS research projects.
- Apply for AIX course accounts. Address undergraduate student concerns about account quotas and managment.

Qualifications/Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree in Geography or a closely related field (e.g. Geomatics Engineering, Environmental Science, Earth Science, Computer Science).
- Master of Science degree is considered an asset.
- Strong working knowledge of serveral software packages including ArcInfo, ArcView, Idrisi, PCI and SPSS as well as Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access and Powerpoint) and graphic arts programs such as CorelDraw.
- Significant experience with remote sensing and GIS applications and project development.
- Ability to communicate and instruct technical and conceptual GIS and RS topics to individuals at an undergraduate and graduate student level in a lab or lecture environment.
- Continual learning and skill development is necessary.
