Thesis-Based Program
The Department of Geography offers students the opportunity to undertake thesis-based graduate studies leading to M.A., M. Sc. and Ph.D. degrees. These programs are officially administered through the Faculty of Graduate Studies at the University of Calgary. We also offer students from abroad currently involved in graduate studies the opportunity to come to our department as Visiting Students. Students interested in doing so should consult the requirements of their current program.
Students may undertake full or part-time study as officially described by the Faculty of Graduate Studies Guidelines.
The department offers MA, MSc and PhD degree programs facilitating flexibility and creativity in advanced geographical inquiry among graduate students and enhancing the specialized research foci of the academic staff. The graduate program requires a judicious mixture of course work and investigation appropriate to the requirements of each graduate student's research endeavor. The department seeks to develop research expertise at the graduate level commensurate with that at other leading universities and to draw upon the extensive physical and human opportunities for research in its vast regional laboratory. The department expects its graduate students to be able to utilize their advanced training in aspiring to positions of responsibility in all levels of government, business or education, as appropriate.
