The Department maintains a Collections Room on the 4th floor of the Earth Sciences Building (ES-457). Here we house our large collection of atlases, air photos, topographic maps of Alberta and Canada (NTS), and other maps from around the world, as well as geographical reference and course materials. More than 20,000 maps are stored in large map cabinets and in wall map format, complementing those in the Maps and Air Photo Library section of the main library on campus. Teaching sets and visual aids are made available to course and laboratory instructors. Many journal titles, books and other materials have been donated by faculty, students and individuals of the community. Geography graduate theses and proposals are also available for viewing. The Collections Room serves the important functions of reading room, study area, course pre and completion centre, meeting and informal discussion venue in addition to a potential location for photocopying, basic computer access for internet, e-mail and word processing, and reserve/course or laboratory material sign-out.
