- Ph.D. Student
My experiences as a volunteer teacher in Uganda in 2005 fueled my passion for the development of primary education in rural communities in East Africa. My research focuses on Unversal Primary Education (UPE) in developing countries. In particular I am interested in the role of community leaders who provide education but are also leaders for all members of their community and its development. I am also interested in the emerging Voluntourism industry and the impact of western volunteers in host communities in developing countries.
I have travelled to (and/or worked in) Australia, Cuba, Egypt, Fiji, Mexico, New Zealand, Rwanda, Scotland, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, Uganda and the United Kingdom.
